School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (Sugai & Horner, 2002) is rapidly being adopted internationally. It is a method of Positive Behaviour Support where prosocial behaviour is encouraged and rewarded, the needs of the students are listened to, heard and responded to. This model has been shown to increase both the well-being of students and staff.
Increasingly, the evidence is building that 'traditional' approaches to discipline are outdated, ineffective and can be harmful both to the child's development and self esteem, not to mention unpleasant for the staff who have to implement these approaches.
